PAIKKA is an inclusive, freshly emerging, art project space / collective, that welcomes any creator to join their experimental projects that explore topics from different disciplines such as art, technology, and science and which are eligible for group participation. The goal of the collective is to create opportunities that art and educational institutes miss, to form a collaborative and open-minded community, one that’s free of all ideological, stylistic regulations, and to create a platform where creators can exchange skills and knowledge.

In the beginning PAIKKA was established by three young founders, Zsuzsanna Bonyhadi, Daniel Xu Wang
and Milena Veleva.

Since then the collective is run by a lot more people who work in a non-hierarchical system which expands with new international members by each retreat they organise.

Subconscious / retreat #2

>> june,
2020

During our second retreat with PAIKKA we tried to explore our subconscious while holding a firm grasp on the intangible phenomenons underlying within our deepest self.

In doing so, we had a diverse selection of workshops discovering the topics of subconscious: Active Imagination, Fluidity Sleep Lab, Improvised Realities, Violence Club, Self-trance, Resonance and Repetition, Konnektíva, and Sensory Solidarity.

It was an enormously instructive experience, out there among the woods, where no one disturbs the presence of the untouched thought.

The event was founded by the Europen Union’s Erasmus+ fund.

Camouflage

The areas allocated to connect with nature have shrinked, we have less and less opportunities to connect with the wildlife surround us in such ways that don’t stumble upon humankind’s noxious footprint.

Does an authentic, close to nature experience exist or everything that we believe is - just, in fact, a hoax?

Attila Szász and KristofLab explores our society’s distorted relationship with nature with an exhibiton designed specifically for PAIKKA’s current place.

Cyberdrum — Incidental Realites / retreat #1

THE CYBERDRUM
PROJECT

Kiberdob, which literally translates from Hungarian to English as ‘cyberdrum’ is a series of projects. The main objective of the project is to collectively create an interactive audio-visual device (named ‘kiberdob’) which will help anyone who interacts with it to experience a flow state.

Cyberdrum is a multiplayer electronic instrument designed to connect non-musicians with musicians and help them to experience the joy of improvisational and collaborative music creation. It is always site-specific, relies on a wide spectrum of triggers, such as its natural and/or artificial surroundings or human movements, and built with materials that are found around the area where Kiberdob settles.

There have been five projects implemented so far.  See our latest retreat's documentation below.

We held our first international residency/retreat in the first weeks of November 2021, ‘Cyberdrum’, which’s main objective was to collectively create an interactive audio-visual device (named ‘kiberdob’) which will help anyone who interacts with it to experience a flow state.
During the retreat we’ve established a strong partnership with two international collectives: iii (NL) & ssesi.space (CZ).

Neurofeedback Nights

PAIKKA is interested about projects coming form different disciplines open for experimentation and participation. Thus, it was obvious for us that we wanted to show the audience of Budapest the interactive statue born from the collaboration of József Gettó and Machine One.

József Gettó is a sculptor known from his infamous ‘twisted’ wooden sculptures. The man behind Machine One is Péter Soltész, who develops analogue and digital lightpaintings, many among his works can be found in the international scene.

The +;- BWC 2020 is an interactive light installation which can be brought to life with our thoughts. With the help of projection mapping, different forms are drawn on top of it when its visitor enters a focused, concentrated sate. In order to achieve this, they implemented an EEG device, which makes it easy to transfer our thoughts to physically measurable electrical signals.

Between november 6th and 8th, everyday from 16h to 21h, we invite you to visit Neurofeedback Nights @ PAIKKA, where anyone can try out how with the help of their brainwaves can become someone a part of a multidimensional creative process

Exhibiton opening: 16:00, 6th of November with Andrea Sztojánovits — light artist, collage professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts

Open Call for Creators / 04.20 - 05.30

>> june,
2020

Due to the pandemic and regulations, a huge part of our cultural life has been torn into pieces. Kertész street's newly opening >>PAIKKA<<, however, has set its own goal to try to organically construct a collaborative, open-minded, and forced ideology/style/form-less project space. During the one-month-long submission period (20.04-23.05), PAIKKA's founders are looking forward to receiving the wildest variety of exhibitions, performances, or any sort of ideas concerning the notion of topics such as cyberspace, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, industry 4.0 and anything that explores the connection of humans and technology, (and beyond).

"We want to achieve the flow of exhibitions via building a horizontal hierarchy, in which we only participate as co-curators, and where the applicants plan and develop their idea by working together with each other. During the shared designing process, they get to experience the possibility to turn their ideas/projects into collaborative work and become familiar with other members' projects to the core. We, the organisers, are only present as facilitators, but we continuously help the applying artists in achieving progress and indicating new ideas."

Handling in the proposal has no formal limitations.

"We would like the applicants to show us how would they reconstruct PAIKKA's digitally approachable space in real life via their visions/projects concerning the topics listed above, to transform this space into a completely new one."
