“Heterotopia is a concept elaborated by philosopher Michel Foucault to describe certain cultural, institutional and discursive spaces that are somehow ‘other’: disturbing, intense, incompatible, contradictory or transforming. Heterotopias are worlds within worlds, mirroring and yet upsetting what is outside.
Such projects are shown under this page that meet the requirements of the term.

In general, a heterotopia is a physical representation or approximation of a utopia, or a parallel space (such as a prison) that contains undesirable bodies to make a real utopian space possible.

Foucault explains the link between utopias and heterotopias using the example of a mirror. A mirror is a utopia because the image reflected is a 'placeless place', an unreal virtual place that allows one to see one's own visibility. However, the mirror is also a heterotopia, in that it is a real object. The heterotopia of the mirror is at once absolutely real, relating with the real space surrounding it, and absolutely unreal, creating a virtual image.

At the beginning of December_2020 a new collective was formed which beared the name H4RDB01L3D and consisted of various members from the Budapest alternative//performance scene. It’s main ideology covered the topic of the hungarian underground youth: constantly developing and searching for new and innovative ways of art to fiercefully bypass the always present flaring cloud of governmental suppression and the everyday presence of shortened human rights. A week later we joined our forces with the Leipzig scene of young artists, namely with hitness.club, which is an ongoing collaborative underground TV since 2018 that broadcasts original content produced by their viewers. By the time this spread, a lot more artists joined the collaboration from Germany/Argentine/Bulgaria and Hungary.

When we gathered our forces at the beginning of December, we started to held meetups in the virtual bar of gather.town where we would discuss and fight our main ideas as collectives from around the globe. The concept was pretty starightforward from the first minute: we wanted to organise a series of events, which would reach beyond the frame of the regular lcd monitors and worn out cinema screens, something so radical and innovative that involves all sorts of modern technology blended with art, and yet accessible for everyone to participate in (Achim Kolba).

This is how we launched the I. CHAOZFESTIVAL which intended to take the challenge, and become a four-day long streaming festival of curated exhibitons and performances. The planning began by sorting out and organizing the tons of beautiful projects and performance ideas/artists we held in our hands. The acts ranged from cyborgism to noise, hacking to evolutionary biologism, and from digital manifestos to humour. In the final program layout we had a lineup, which’s featured acts as the following ->

After all this being selected, a virtual reality website was constructed (chaozfestival.cf, Milena Veleva), which featured two stages (headstage and beachstage) and where we divided the program into two sections. /Beachstage featured the music/noise/animation/livecoding/visuals section, while /Headstage focused more on the performance artists, the cyber genre, talks and workshops. In the meantime, the offline version of the two stages were also built, which resembled their online copy with a heavily dedicated approach. Two cinema screens/canvases were put in the virtual reality pages, which casted our stream realtime inside the virtual reality for the viewers online. A 2d website was also developed for slow internet speed connection users. When the serious line of tests and rehearsals was all done, we initiated the server for the site, set the date, and created the social media presence for our festival.

CHAOZFEST PROGRAMS:

— a post-organic Bauplan, which works from a post-humanist perspective based on the development of non-organic devices to transgress the practices that condition aggresively our bodily perception— the act of the symbiotic noise-parasite„Der Warst, using his wild homebuilt laboratory of hacked PS 2s while creating live glitchscapes with circuit bent video hardware— an algorithmic visualization of Reafference team’ s EEG analysis system of scalp electric potentials and cerebral activity diagnostics, stimulated by behavior, movement and their reflection through dance
— a rollercoaster of ravy, glitchy tunes with an added chaos of sampled mass media material and anti-consumerism approach— distorted performances of primary feelings and casual emotions via a drummachine and vocals only — multiple acts with livecoded visuals, self built shaders and generative art made with hydra, Touchdesigner and self developed sofware— an audiovisual performance using real-time streams from surveillance cameras around the world, seeking the edge of what is considered obsolete by the consumer world, while exploring the difference between machine and man

...and many more acts, shows, exhibitions, and performances...
